Aircrew Flight Equipment (AFE) CDC 1 Practice Test

The purpose of a survival knife in an aircrew survival kit is primarily for cutting and building shelters in survival situations. A survival knife is a versatile tool that equips aircrew members with the ability to perform essential tasks when faced with emergencies in remote or hostile environments.

In such situations, having the capability to cut materials can be critical for constructing a protective shelter against the elements, which can enhance chances of survival. The knife can also serve various other functions, such as preparing food, crafting tools, or even signaling for help, but its fundamental purpose revolves around ensuring that the individual can create a safe environment and manage their survival needs effectively.

The other options refer to functions that are not typical roles of a survival knife. For instance, a survival knife does not function as a communication device, nor does it harness energy from the environment or specifically help with securing parachute gear.
